CYO  Christmas Tree Update

Sorry to report that  we are closed for CYO trees.
We thoroughly enjoyed the hundreds of folks who came Friday 11/25 and Saturday 11/26 to help us celebrate the Christmas season.
We also enjoyed the folks who came on December 10 to cut down some Norway Spruce.
It is always so enjoyable to have folks at the Farm!

Planting Updates:

Our planting season was a busy one!
We planted:
1000 Christmas Tree seedlings,
3000 strawberry plants,
and this year
over a thousand pumpkin and gourd seeds.

The newly planted strawberries and blueberries will hopefully begin producing berries next year. While blueberry plants will produce berries for 25 years or more,  strawberry plants are only good for picking in years 2, 3, &  4.  After that they have to be plowed up and not planted back in those beds for 3 or 4 years.
The Christmas tree seedlings planted this year will not be ready until after 2031 at the earliest, which proves that,
at my age, I am an optimist!

Maple Crest Strawberries (June) and Blueberries (July) and Pumpkins (Sept/Oct) are sought after by both area residents and guests from all over New England. We sell berries at The West Newbury Food Mart and Long Hill Farm and, periodically, at the Colby Farm Stand.  John and Carol make their strawberries, blueberries, and pumpkins available for pick-your-own customers as well.

We hope to see you and your family out in the field!  Just bring your preferred sunscreen and bug spray. We supply cartons, drinking water and lovely shaded picnic tables for looking over the reservoir when your picking is done!
We also have a playset for children to enjoy.
Maple Crest is devoted to green initiatives. We work hard to avoid chemical treatments.

In 2010, we started composting leaves from area towns. When the reservoir was built 40 years ago, much of the high quality topsoil was stripped away from the field next to the reservoir, making it impossible to grow new crops. We are now experiencing great success using natural, composting methods to restore rich topsoil, allowing us to plant new trees, sunflowers, and pumpkins.

Come by and see our large, all-natural, leaf composting initiative.
